Your Burden Is Your Blessing

It’s been 4 weeks today. 4 weeks of feeling the deepest depths of despair as well as the greatest outpouring of love and support.

“Your Burden is Your Blessing” - To Hell and Back, that’s the series we started in church on Sunday. Talking about Jesus’ journey to the cross. His greatest burden, our greatest blessing.

Even in these past 4 weeks, I have seen God work in people’s lives like never before. I have been given the chance to share the gospel with people who I would never have had the chance.

I have received testimonies that me being open about my journey through grief has helped others heal from past hurts, similar to mine or different.

Several have donated to a cause in Jonathan’s honor that will literally save the lives of preborn babies. Parents have been given a hope and gift of life instead of death for their child and their soul.

I have a compassion and empathy for those who hurt, that I have never had before.

Even though I valued the sanctity of life before, I understand so much more the spirit that each person holds and how beautiful we each are. Beauty and value given to us by our Heavenly Father.

But still there are times that I am angry and tell God that even with these amazing things he is doing through Jonathan’s life and death, I would rather have him here with me. I long for his smile, his touch, his presence, his special place in our family.

And even in these moments, God sends a word to tell me that he understands my pain.

‘Going a little farther, he[Jesus] fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”’ Matthew 26:39

Lord, may I keep my eyes on the blessing I can be to others through my circumstances, may I focus on your blessing to us on the cross and the hope we have in you.

“A purpose driven life is not a burden free life, but because of Jesus, we don’t carry the burdens on our own.” Rich Wilkerson Jr.
