Sabbath
“The focus and culmination of a life that is daily and practically devoted to honoring God.” Peter Scazzero
The Holy Spirit has been bringing this commandment to my attention in different ways lately. I have wrestled with it, not wanting to be “breaking” a commandment or practicing legalities.
Deuteronomy 5:12 - “Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.”
In reading and learning about the unfolding of God’s story and promise for a savior in the Old Testament and the fulfillment in the New Testament, in Jesus; I have come to realize that God has always been focused on our heart, devotion and faith in Him. Our actions are a physical expression of those things.
Some questions I wrestled with:
Do we trust and have faith that His commandments are for our best? Do we solely rely on Him to fulfill us?
Or are we striving in our own efforts? Do we have more faith in the act of keeping the commandments than the one that gave them?
Do we keep the commandments out of a great love and adoration for our savior? Or out of a religious, legalistic spirit?
After coming back from our weekend away, reality and memories hit again once walking back into our house.
I had escaped the full effects for a short time, but the Lord reminded me that it is not in escaping during sabbath/vacation that will uphold me and carry me through, but the daily reliance and communion with Him.
May I nurture a consistent rest in you Lord, appreciating and praising you for the beauty you created for us to enjoy. Dedicating all I am, all I have and all I do to your glory. ❤️
