Real Life

How do we walk out our Christian convictions in real life decisions that have the potential to affect generations to come?

Last weekend the girls and I took the theology of the Christian life and brought it front and center to our everyday life. It was real and we were all vulnerable, I pray that God was glorified in our conversation and that seeds were planted that will produce fruit in all our lives.

I won’t be sharing specifics of the topic we discussed but I want to share the framework that we all, who profess to be Christ followers, should take in analyzing how we live our life.

I hope you find it beneficial for yourself, your children, family members, sharing the gospel or in discipling others.

3 weeks ago we went on a bike ride, we parked in a small parking lot that I have seen several times when driving through this area. I’ve always thought that I couldn’t park there or you had to pay to park there. There was a sign saying it was for a nature trail but was this a trail for people, for bikes, for animals? All this time I did not know, bc I did not ask the security guard that sat there all day with the answers. Their job is to provide me with safety and information, I did not know...bc I did not ask.

How many times do we do this in our Christian life and especially as parents with our children, we state laws or “Christian lingo” but never explain God’s perfect design or reason for placing parameters around his instructions that are found in his Word.

We place a sign with no follow up information, we close the door to questions and fail to disciple our children standing before us. They will find answers somewhere else, if we don’t supply them or investigate with them.

WE DON’T HAVE TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS(and won’t). SEARCH AND STUDY THE SCRIPTURES WITH THEM. ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR WISDOM.

I want my children to grow into critical thinking, able to defend their beliefs and standing for truth adults. I want their faith to be their own bc they wrestled with the truth of scripture vs what the world was telling them, that they had a safe place with me to bring their questions and they knew that God, their Heavenly Father, welcomed them to lay all their doubts, struggles, desires and dreams at His feet, for him to use for His glory.

I WANT THEM TO RUN TO THE GIVER OF LIFE, THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, THE BEGINNING AND THE END FOR ANSWERS TO THEIR QUESTIONS, NOT AWAY FROM HIM.

Biblical Investigation

1. Pray that there would be grace, love and truth in your conversation. That God would be glorified and that the Holy Spirit would bring conviction and repentance.

There can’t be love without truth, but the truth must be spoken in love, extending the grace and mercy given to you but remembering that in that grace and mercy - there still may be consequences.

2. Share/reiterate the Gospel Message(preach it to yourself if needed).

Make sure that you are starting from the same foundation. Give the opportunity to accept the Gospel message.

  • We were created to give God glory and be in communion with Him.

  • We are sinners in need of a savior, our sinful nature separates us from a holy God.

  • I cannot save myself, Jesus is the only way to be reconciled with God.

  • Jesus came to earth fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for my sins, rose from the grave and defeated death.

  • I am fully justified because of Christ’s sacrifice but daily being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

  • Only with the Holy Spirit can I please God and not my own works, and when I fail, I run to him, repent and am welcomed with open arms.

3. Ask what it means it means for Jesus to not only be your Savior, but also your Lord.

If He is Lord in your life then you should follow His commands. The Lord or

King decides the laws and unlike our human kings, God’s law is perfect and always best for us.

This desire should come from a reverence for the wrath and judgement of a holy God and out of love and thankfulness for His most gracious gift of salvation. While knowing that it is the Holy Sprit that empowers us to follow his commands.

4. A Christian is also known as a Christ follower - how do you learn to be a Christ follower?

I gave the example of becoming a doctor - do you automatically become a doctor by deciding you are one? No, you study and practice and rely on mentors and people to teach and correct you.

5. So when we have a question, as a Christian our response should be, what does the Bible say about this? How can I align my beliefs, thoughts or actions to what my Lord and Savior has commanded?

As the creator of all things, God has the right to establish the parameters. But rest assured, our Good Father only has our best interest in mind.

OUR BEST AND HIS GLORY.

6. Does this automatically erase our sinful desires, questions, struggles or pain?

Not always and sometimes not until we are in eternity with Christ.

But we can be confident that with the Holy Spirit we are more than conquerors. Everyday we can lay all those things at the feet of Jesus and he will empower us to run our race well; with the guidance of his Word, the Holy Spirit and accountability to Godly parents and our church family.

Will we ever do this perfectly? No. But His mercies are new every morning.
