Happy Good Friday

Yesterday I was talking(texting) to a friend and she asked if I treasure all the little memories more now or if they have the opposite effect.

I told her, “I do treasure them. I wouldn’t want it any other way. The joy will eventually outweigh the pain.”

What a perfect picture of what we now call Good Friday. I can imagine how devastated Mary and all those that loved Jesus felt when they watched him be crucified on the cross. It was their saddest, darkest day but they had a promise to hold on to that Sunday was coming!

Saturday must have felt like one of the longest days, waiting for the promise to be fulfilled. Each going through periods of denial, anger, sadness, bargaining and depression trying to cope in their own way with what they were facing.

In the words of another great friend, “and even those who had lost hope and were hiding away in the upper room fearing for their lives were surprised by great joy on Sunday. I find that sometimes I can and do lose hope for periods of time, but God continually surprises me with joy that often follows my greatest storms.”

Thank you Lord for the sacrifice of your own son on our behalf, may I live each day to honor this sacrifice. Holding on to your promise that even through our darkest days, you are risen and have overcome.

And underneath are your everlasting arms. Deut. 33:27
